Greetings my fellow Democrats!

What a fabulous weekend we had at the convention! I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I hope you did as well. I have been attending these conventions for years, but this convention was extra special for me and my family.

I ran into many of you after my speech, and your kind words were so heartening. I encourage you to continue your commitment with the party and give a few hours of your time to help in any way you can, whether it is registering people, supporting your DEC meetings and committees, or getting involved with individual campaigns.

2010 will be a test of our resolve that we continue the momentum of the past election. Much is riding on this election. The census is an extremely important tool used for re–districting and re-apportionment and we must be vigilant. Gerrymandering is a threat to democracy in Florida. Join the petition campaign for Fair Districts at www.FairDistrictsFlorida.org and spread the word.

Lastly, I wanted to remind you that my daughter, Amy Mercado is running for House District 35 and she will need your help. I can’t tell you how huge her win will be for the Democratic Party. When Amy unseats Dean Cannon it will send shockwaves throughout Florida!

Can you imagine the headline: “Freshman Democrat unseats Speaker of the House”? It has been done once before, so it is not impossible, but she cannot do it alone. She needs your help. Please help me spread the word about Amy’s campaign by sharing her website with your friends, neighbors, co-workers, family members, and contributing $35 for District 35 or as much as you can. Every dollar takes us closer to justice for Florida.
